Would you consider this a high end system over mid range?

This will be a gaming system
-2x4 GB 2133MHz g.skill ram
-Intel i5 4670k
-Asus z87- a motherboard
-corsair 600w power supply
-Define R4 windowed case
-120 gb SSD for the boot drive
-1 TB HDD for storage
-windows 7 because 8 sucks
-maybe a cheap standard disk drive for reading and burning some music and movies
-r9 290 AMD graphics card
-extra blue led fans and possibly some advanced cooling solutions later down the road for overclocking
-a possibly buying a second r9 290 and a better PSU right before the r9 290 goes off the market to then do crossfire.

Does this seem like a good compatible setup that will provide strong gaming performance and be future proof for years to come? Let me know!

If I was you I would go ahead and grab a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo instead of the intel cooler. It's only about $30 and it's fairly quiet and reliable.
Also I would go with a 850W XFX, Seasonic, Antec, EVGA (to name just a few) PSU that is at least semi-modular. It will allow you to add another GPU later down the line and maybe allow for some overclocking, and the modular aspect will just make your life a lot easier when you get to cable management.
For an SSD I would suggest the Samsung 840 Evo or Pro. Arguably the best SSD's on the market.
I have been looking for some good blue-LED fans for awhile now. I'd take a look at the Corsair AF 120/140 LED fans. They are a little pricey but they seem to be up to par with the regular AF 120/140's except for the rubber fittings on the inside of the screw holes. Other than that I haven't really found any with good reviews. It might be a better solution to just get some high performance fans and buy some LED strips.

I hope this can be of some guidance to you, good luck with your build.

I already got a 600w Corsair PSU because it was $30 after rebate on black Friday which is an insane deal and it should be for for a single GPU. If I go for crossfire later on I will upgrade and sell the 600w PSU and maybe even make about $10 off of it because that power supply goes for about $60 new. As for the cooling, If I decide to stick with air I will probably go for the 212 EVO, but I really want to do water cooling but it may be to expensive because the water block for the GPU is about $100 and I also don't know how to do it. I have been looking at Corsair fans as well and Cooler Master and NZXT seem to have some good options. I will make sure to look into that SSD. Thanks for your input!
