I did a fresh install of windows 8 onto the ssd and its using the AHCI mode and not the IDE.I have the firmware drivers updated on ssd and laptop and my laptop setting is on high performance.

Yet using AS SSD benchmark i get 175MB read and 90MB write when other benchmarks that I find online have it at 470MB read and 170MB write. Is the ssd faulty or am I forgetting a certain setting?

More about : brand kingston 120gb ssd slow speeds

Kinston SSDs use a SandForce controller. You need to benchmark your drive with ATTO.

ATTO uses highly compressible data to test Read/Write speeds. Highly compressible data is the easiest type of data for any SSD to Read/Write.

AS-SSD uses highly incompressible data to test Read/Write speeds. Highly incompressible data is the hardest type of data for any SSD to Read/Write.

Im comparing my benchmarks with other AS SSD benchmark data and it doesnt match up. One example is the review at the ssd review: http://

I just re-read your 1st post and noticed that you're using a laptop. Most laptops don't have SATA 3 (6Gb/s) ports.
What is your laptop model?

I have a dell inspiron 7720 and it has 2 ports for harddrives one is sata 2 the other is sata 3. Even if I only had sata 2 the speeds should still go above 200MB/sec

Those speeds are about par for a laptop, especially if you have the ssd installed in the sata2 port.

Benchmark with ATTO and you should see speeds over 200MB/s.

yes I could but im talking about non compressable benchmarks like AS SSD where I have found other online review benchmarks of Kingston V300's getting a much higher read and write speed like the link I posted before, which means my V300 is not performing anywhere close to normal.

Those benchmarks you posted are from an ASUS (P8Z77-V Premium), Intel (Core i7-3770K), Crucial (Ballistix), Corsair (H100) and Be Quiet (PSU/Fans.) Laptops are low end computing and like I said, your benchmarks are par for the course with laptops.
