Hello Community,

I have been having this issue for a while now. I use my wired internet mostly for gaming and other stuff. I have a 50 mpbs package that is wired. I have issues when i log into my world of warcraft game and get into a battle ground or a raid my internet lags out and drops me to ranging from 1- 8 mpbs speed. I have made several complaints to the internet tech support of why this happens only when i game online and now when i am listening to music or watching movies online.

So the tech support cameover and said that my LAN setting needed some tweaking that is he put the SPEED & DUPLEX to a full 100 duplex setting, and then assured me that the problem is resolved but to no surprise 30 min later when i was gaming i started to lag. 50 mpbs is a strong connection for gaming i should not lag at that speed. They tech support blames my LAN settings.

What i want to know is my computer ruined for this to occur? And why it only happens when i game my laptop isnt that great its a toshiba.

Please advice.

Thanking you in advance

Is this the speed going into your computer or the speed going into your router?

No i meant is this the speed you are getting to your computer or is it the speed you are getting form your isp. Do you know how to check the speed you are getting form your isp?

Yes my internet provider has a tool that shows how much speed i am getting and i have a software called Du meter that is installed and that even gives me accurate speed my system is getting.

i do not know how to check how much speed my isp is providing. Sorry Krishna did i answer you correctly.

50mbps/8 = 6.25 Megabytes a second (MBps). You'll also only get close to 6.25MBps if you live near the network exchange and your ISP has used quality cabling....

Try connecting to a game server closer to your location and stopping all other network tasks.

okay
if you know how to access your modem through the gateway its different for different modems it will tell you how to acess it. Now you can go through the menus and find something like "router status" (that is what it is for me anyway) and then it will tell you the up and down speed you are getting form the isp.

The reason i am asking this is so that i can find out if this is an issue from you isp or a wiring issue in between your modem and pc.

My gaming serve is Europe. That is the closest.

Secondly i dont understand when you said i will have to find out my router status cause i am not connected to a router i use a direct connection from the internet switch which is in the building provided by the service provider.

hmm okay you cant mess with it then D: i can recommend changing the cables you have between the box and your computer. IF an Ethernet cable gets slightly kinked it can be damaged and do weird things.

my connection is 3 weeks old do you think that could be the cause? Right now as we talk i am getting 50 mpbs speed but i am sure as soon as i game it will boot me down to 6 mpbs why does that happen if my cables are ruined?

is your isp or building bottlenecking you while gaming because you are taking up too much of the bandwitdh maybe?
I had a ruined cable it was jammed in a cupboard and it was giving the whole house unstable speeds. YEs a damaged cable can do that. but the unstableness happened at random if it only happens while you are gaming it might be something else.

it is not the cable i am sure because i saw the cables installed personally and they are strong enough to survive atleast a year. i am think that my isp is giving me low bandwidth when i game. For that what can i do??? maybe just talk to them about it?

Ask them then get back to me if its not them im really not sure what is going on D: It could also be you building since it seems you are sharing the connection.

Then again i live in Australia and really far form the exchange and i get 6 mbps on a good day. normally about 3-4 and i dont lag at all playing league of legends, BF4 and things like that. If your getting bottlenecked to 8 while gaming that isnt bad i wud love 8 mbps :3

Okay first your not going to get a constant 50Mbps for many reasons, so complaining that you "drop" to 1-8Mbps isn't a measurement of the issues perse (that speed isn't going to 'lag out'). So let's go over some basics:

1) Download and Run SPECCY, copy and paste the tab's info for us to look at when idle.
2) Download and install MSI Afterburner. Open WoW or other games and play for a bit in both a 'quiet' place as well as a 'heavy battleground'. What are your FPS? What are your Temps?
3) Your wired into the router, HOW MANY OTHER devices (phones, iPads, game consoles, etc.) connect to this router as well, wired or WIRELESS?

Hey,

For the second last post i will post the updates as soon as i can. And i am not wired into a ROUTER i have a direct wired connection. I am sorry i dont have a technical background in computers but i will try to explain as best as i can.

I get my internet which comes from my building parking where there is a Huge box with a lot of switches in it and and mine is switch # 4. The wire that comes from the box goes straight into my computer not a modem, router or Ipad i use 4g network for that.

I will post the updates for the runs i do.

Can a weak graphic card affect the internet to drop to 1-8 mpbs for instance today i have not played any games but have been downloading a lot of stuff and watching movies and been testing speed every 30 min and it is 50 mpbs constant.

Thank you for your replies.

No your graphics card should not affect your internet speed
