Windows 8 always results in computer freezing randomly. It's never a problem with Windows 7

I built my sister a computer out of random parts i had laying around. It was using Windows 7 for awhile but she wanted to try 8 so i installed that for her. Its the same retail DVD as the one i'm using on this computer, which has never had any problems.

Her specs:

AMD Athlon II X3 450
Radeon R7 260X
460W PSU
4GB RAM
Foxconn A7GM-S Motherboard
150GB HDD

It never froze once when using Windows 7. After installing Windows 8 it just randomly locks up and nothing responds. Only option is to restart the PC. Sometimes it wont do it for a few hours but then randomly, BOOM, frozen. I have seen it happen while just browsing the web, browsing folders, while installing something, and when waking the computer up from a low power state (the monitor will turn back on but it just stays blank). As i mentioned its the same DVD that i used for my own computer and i have never experienced this problem. I have also put Windows 7 back on to check if it would do it again but it always works fine then. Have waited for a few days with no problem using 7. I'm not dual booting either, each time i just reformatted from scratch. I should probably just stick with Windows 7 for her since it works but i am the kind of person who hates to let a problem like this go unsolved if its solvable.

Any ideas?

edit: I should also mention i got all the updated drivers as well, as far as i know. I have done it so many times i don't think i forgot anything.

I actually updated the BIOS before initially installing Windows 8 so i know its not that

Although the most recent update for that mobo is a few years old. I guess it could be that it just doesn't like Windows 8
