Hi all. I am not an expert on computers and would really appreciate some advice if someone could spare a few minutes.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite, around 3 years old.

The issue is that my Toshiba laptop screen flickers green and black horizontal lines when turned on. It used to flicker on and off (and I could still use the laptop) but now does so all the time so I cannot use it. The actual laptop works fine and works fine when hooked up to an external moniotor.

I am therefore 99% sure it is a fault with the LCD cable, not the screen (as occassionally it does "come back" and not flicker for a second or two).

Could anyone, from past experience (and my brief explantion above), confirm these suscpicions please?

If so, should I buy a cable and fix myself (or ask a techy expert friend to), or should I just go to a repair shop?

Many thanks and any advice would be much appreciated.

Chris

You're exactly right.

It does sound like the cable for the LCD. This is a common fault in laptops.
I wouldn't try doing anything to your laptop if you're not experienced in this. It'll probably need soldering.

I would definately go to a repair shop.

Thank you Haioko,

It is good to have a similar opinion. Do you have any idea what cost I would be looking at? I am guessing this would be cheaper than just buying a new laptop...

Thanks again

Thank you Indigo, this is very useful.

I dont think there is an in-built webcam so that might take one cable out of the equation! Think I will buy a cable and give it a go (under the supervision of a friend if I can talk one into it!) Thanks again.

If you feel comfortable enough to do it then by all means go ahead. I personally wouldn't recommend anyone trying to fix anything they don't know about.

Good luck!
