Hi there everyone,

I recently (27-12-2013) picked up my New Gigabyte non reference r9 290, upgrading my 6850.

Since I've put this gpu in my system has the occasional freeze, which at first look seems to be random, I've had it happen to me while I was opening up a gmail tab, closing down BF4 and even when I was asleep and my pc was just running with the screen turned off.

This is my system:
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Boxed
Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H
Gigabyte GV-R929OC-4GD
Samsung EcoGreen F2 EG HD154UI, 1.5TB
Fractal Design Define R4 Pearl Black
Scythe Mugen 3 Rev. B
Crucial Ballistix BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU
Corsair AX760
Plextor PX-256M5S 256GB

The SSD/PSU/case/cpu cooler are relatively new (bought on 28-11-2013)
The gpu is from 27-12-2013.
Rest of the system is from late 2010.

Apart from these things I've got 2 extra Noctua fans in my case to improve airflow and keep the goodies cool.

I've got the latest bios for my motherboard.
I removed my previous GPU drivers using driver sweeper, and then installed the latest stable version from the AMD website (13.12).

I snooped around a bit in my event viewer, in which I couldn't find anything, apart from some eventlog error, which basically tells me the time my pc stopped responding, this is the latest report, which was from last night when I was asleep:
Event ID: 6008
Source: EventLog
The previous system shutdown at 4:29:14 on ‎29-‎12-‎2013 was unexpected.

I'm kind of at a loss on what to do here. My fps is fine, I can run BF4 on ultra no problem, but these freezes are concerning me, as this gpu was expensive and brand new, it shouldn't be freezing lol.

Thanks in advance for any help, it's very much appreciated!

Thanks for the response :) .

I haven't overlocked either my cpu or gpu.
I could try another PCI express slot, but can a faulty slot cause freezes?
