Hi , ive just been brought an asus radeon hd7870 graphics card . The problem is i dont have any pcie 6 pin connections on my 500w psu. I do have 1 4pin molex connector .if i connect it via an adaptor will the graphics card draw enough power from the motherboard and the connector. Or should i buy a new psu

Solution
well that psu supposed to be enough to hold it in one piece, but it depend if is decent PSU or some cheap "no name". you can use one of this converters they look like this https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=6pin+converter&safe=off&espv=210&es_sm=93&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=LE7AUrm9Bu6M7AbE9YCgCg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=954#es_sm=93&espv=210&q=6+pin+converter&safe=off&spell=1&tbm=isch
in worst scenario your pc won't boot due to lack of power or you might have difficulty to run heavy games. it still won't kill anything.
unless you want to buy proper new PSU for ~50 pounds which you will need someday anyway. as for me i go easy with 700w OCZ with gtx770 and i7-3820 and bunch of other drives etc. did before even amd6950 with gtx9800...

if i seen well your cpu uses 130w ang gpu ~100w that`s ~230w add rest of equipment wattage and i believe you will fit in 500w easy
