Lag during online game

I sit approximately 15 feet away from the wireless router at my home and there are two walls between my position and the router.
I get a lot of lag spikes while playing Dota2. The signal strength varies from fair to good.
I cant seem to identify the problem since I can browse pretty well and I can use the whole bandwidth of my connection.

Wifi is not recommend for online gaming and it is normal to have lag spikes. You should consider getting an ADSL connection for a more constant ping

I used to use wireless and got fed up with it. Now I run a 30m, yes 30m, cable from the router to my machine. Couldn't be happier. Smooth as silk now.

You should at least try a wired connection to see if this improves your problem. If not, we can discuss the problem further.

Thank you all for the response. I forgot to mention that if I sit in the same room as that of the router then I do not get any lag spikes and I can play smoothly.
Also can using a range extender(signal booster) help?
