Which sound solution for my new pc

I've just built a pc and was intending on fitting a soundcard I already have, a Creative XFI extreme audio. I've liked this card and it's suited my uses well. I don't have a surround setup on speakers, just a 2.1 setup and occasionally I use headphones. The motherboard I have has 7.1 CH HD Audio with Content Protection (Realtek ALC892 Audio Codec) onboard. I've had it suggested to me that it may be better than the card I was using but I have no idea.

So question is, if you had the xfi card or this onboard audio choice, what would be the better solution?

I have and have used the Extreme Music XFi, and found that with stereo (2.1 or headphones) there is no detectable difference between the two. My XFi used a proprietary connector for the front panel so I was never able to use the front panel jacks, which I can with the ALC892.. I would stick with on-board until you get a really nice set of 5.1 speakers.

Yeah, you are right, in general listening of music I can't hear much difference in quality. I used the XFI with reason and I'd hope the onboard sound would handle that ok as well. I was just curious as to whether there was a no-brainer answer where one was way better than the other. If it's down to not a lot I guess sticking with the onboard audio is the right thing to do until theres a reason not to. I'm also guessing the onboard would draw less power though that would prob unnoticable amounts. I'd like to know if one over the other is more of a cpu burden too.
