i7 4770 vs 4770K for overclocking?

Is the 4770k worth the extra money for overclocking, considering I'll have the GIGABYTE G1.Sniper Z87 as a motherboard? Will the mobo even be able the handle some overclocking?

well, to me i find no significant benefits to overclocking. but just in the case you need a little bit more power, i would go with the 4770k, and your motherboard is adequate

Yes. Right now the i7 is very powerful cpu, but in several years it becomes relatively less powerful and an overclock will be very useful.

The 4770 can hardly overclock. The 4770k is unlocked so you can change the multiplier freely to overclock - since you're getting a Z87 motherboard definitely get the k version.
