Hi - I've got a M4A785TD-V EVO mobo, with a Phenom II X4 945 CPU, and 2x2GB DDR3 1333 Ram (XMS3, PC3-10666 CAS9 (CM3X2G133C9D)). Currently running XP, all fine.

I want to upgrade to Win7 64 bit on an SSD and would like to upgrade RAM to make full use of 64bit . 16GB is max mobo can take?

As install (including all software) will be a pretty big job I want to keep XP running as well until migration complete. Should I move to Win7 on exisitng RAM, and when I finally switch off XP (in several months) upgrade, or could I upgrade RAM now and start the move?

Either way, what would be the best way to upgrade RAM - could I keep my existing 4GB? (I'm guessing add 2X4GB more - only 12GB I know but better than my current 3.5!)
or do I have to have 4x4GB, and if so which memory would work, with XP x86 and Win7 x64?
Do I need to upgrade my BIOS etc?? (currently 0407 09/04/2009).
Thanks for any help.

If you buy a higher speed ram the mobo it´s going to set it with the lowest frecuency of the group. eg: 2x2 1333mhz and 2x4 1600mhz you´re going to get 12GB at 1333mhz. Try to buy the same brand of ram that you already got so less compatibilities issues but i don´t think you should come into any problem, if anything happen just stay with 2x4GB in dual channel that will benefit you more than 12GB in single channel.

No, ram is not that complicated to upgrade my friend. You can buy the ram now but windows just will use 3.5 as it is now so it isn´t worth it, is better to update to 7 x64 in fact you should have done that years ago. That many ram is just useful in working situations with specifics softwares with 8 gb you´ll be great try to buy it in 2 so can get a boost with dual channel and yes 16 gb is the max the mobo can take.

Thanks for reply,
I've read a few reports that suggest this motherboard might be fussy about which RAM and the configurationof RAM?
(eg 2x2GB + 2x4GB would be ok? in either slots etc?).....
Is there something about the RAM running at less speed if all 4 slots are used?
I also wanted to check if there were other issues re. RAM including configuration and Win7X64.
