Video card dud?

I recently purchased a GTX 770 Gigabyte and it's not working. When everything is secured properly, my computer won't turn on correctly. It goes into a strange mode where the blue 'on' light is on, the monitor turns on, but it is black, or more of an off blue color, but the 'loading' light stops blinking after about 2 or 3 seconds. Then the computer turns off as soon as you press in the power button. I also never get that single 1 beep to know that my computer turned on successfully. My old video card works fine. I have all drivers uninstalled, but they are both nvidia. The power connectors are in correctly to the card, however I had to improvise and use an 8pin to 6 pin connector and an 8 to 8 instead of one 8 to 8 and one with 2 4's to 8. I don't have 4 pin connectors on my power supply. Could that be the problem? Is it not getting power in the right places? What cord do I need to fix that? The internet shows that it only needs one 8 pin and one 6 pin, and the cord it came with really only has 6 pins anyway, but in a different orientation. Could it be possible it can't read that since they aren't the right connections? I need advice, thank you. Oh, and I have a 700w power supply.

Things I've tried that I can remember.

Connect to onboard graphics: only works with video card out
Reset the CMOS battery: did nothing
Switch the 2 power connectors on the card
disconnected a fan and disc drive in an attempt to give more power ti the card?
tried hdmi instead of the dvi-i to vga to vga I'm using on my monitor

The problem I have with moving it to a new slot is it blocks my sata connectors:/ Can't really do much then, but does it work even if you use the 3rd and 4th SATA without the others plugged in? Cause that would be my only option.

for a test.......... put the 770 in the 4x slot and see if it boots.

your ps could be the problem. card needs 2 8pin connectors. if you're not supplying the right power>>??

the 2 (4's) are for the power to the motherboard............. is that what you used?....... i'm still trying to figure this out. the 8pin white power for the board up by the cpu..............

I can't do any tests at the moment but I'll try in an hour or so. All the power for the motherboard is in I believe.... it turns on with no card and integrated graphics or my old card. There is a 6 pin connector in the gpu with an 8 pin in the psu, and another 8 pin to 8 pin connector as well, they are all seperate from the motherboard and extra cords that came with the power supply. There is no 4 pin connectors in my power supply, so I can't connect the cord that came with the gpu to the gpu in any way. The internet does say that it needs one 8 pin and one 6 pin, but does it really have to be that specific cord?

UPDATE: I took out the 6 pin and put in an 8 pin and I get to the GIGABYTE screen but then it freezes and I get a continuous beep (as in, one single beep every 20 seconds or so.). I think the adapter I'm using is the problem. I drew somewhat of a diagram. ( this is the best I can do, all I can use right now for internet is a Wii U ) http://awwapp.com/s/11/5f/6e.html

What? Anyway, would using a second 8 pin put too much power into the card or cause it to not work properly? Or would it ignore extra connections. and those connectors coming out of the power supply that you can't remove? Are they safe to use on a graphics card?
