Is it possible to rebuild a 5 or 6 year old laptop, if yes, how?
If no, why not?

Specs for the Laptop:
MSI EX-600
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T5750
3 GB of memory
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G
a TOSHIBA MK25xx hard drive

FYI: I contacted the company that resells them, and I'm waiting for an answer from them
and I'm posting this from a desktop

Laptops are almost impossible to upgrade besides the ram and HDD. You could put an ssd into it without many issues and a slight upgrade in processor but you can't just change a motherboard like you do a desktop. I mean your MSI EX600 only uses DDR2 with a max of 4gb. In my opinion it is better to start off building a desktop. Laptops once you buy them, there is very little you can do to them.

It would be better to post a budget of what you can afford, also what you need like OS/Monitor/Perpherals and see what people are able to figure out for you
