ASUS Anti-Surge detected an unstable power supply unit on the last power-up

A few nights ago my PC suddenly switched off when I was playing a game (Rust). It then came up with a message saying that Asus Anti-Surge detected an unstable PSU on the last power-up. Now, every time I go on my PC - 5-10 minutes later, the same thing happens. Unless I turn off the anti-surge it will continue to do this, however I do not want to do this as it will harm components eventually. I have checked all to cables in my PC and they are all plugged in correctly. I built my PC 6 months ago, and this is the first issue I am having the tackle. Last night, my graphics driver stopped responding and responded again. I turned the anti-surge off for a few hours. However when this happened, I decided I didn't want to risk it - so I turned the anti-surge back on. I am planning on buying a new PSU - is this the right thing to do?

I think the stormy weather caused a power surge. Do you agree?

Components:
Intel Core i5
Gigabyte GTX 670
Asus Motherboard
Corsair 750w
Corsair 8GB RAM

Solution

Hi - Your issue is common with many Asus mobo's that have the anti-surge feature. The best solution is to disable this feature in BIOS, otherwise it will continue. No harm will happen to your components if you have a decent quality PSU. What is the brand/model of your PSU?

You might need a new PSU, but you might not. Many of the good ones shut down without damage.

But, I turned my ASUS anti-surge off, and the same day my graphics driver stopped responding and then recovered. So I don't know whether it is safe or not to turn it off!

And my PSU is Corsair CX750w

Seems like a separate problem. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers (possible they got corrupted),
I don't think the Asus anti surge being off has anything to do with it.

Try uninstalling & reinstalling the drivers.

Possible the CX750 got damaged, do you have a way of testing it in another PC? If
it got damaged during the surge (it shouldn't have), then you can RMA it assuming it's
still in warranty.

If you are able to do those things and you still have the issue, then it's possible the GPU or mobo
is at fault.

I can't test it on another PC - so I really don't know what to do.

Hi again - I assume you have tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers. Please post your issue in the systems and/or motherboard sections.
Send a private message to Tradesman1, he is far more knowledgeable than me for non PSU issues.

I had this problem show up this morning when I powered on my computer. This computer is a brand new build, only a month old. The computer has run like a champ with zero issues since I built it. Last night before bed, I shut down my computer like always. This morning I pressed the power button and nothing happened. I pressed it again, nothing. Pressed it again, nothing. Finally after pressing it another time it powered on. That's when the message occurred. "Power supply surges detected during the previous power on. ASUS anti-surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply." I knew I had plenty of power because I future proofed this build. I was able to enter the BIOS, save and exit and it booted to Windows 10 just fine. The computer operated just fine. I ran some tests and all seemed fine. I ran an intense game for about 30 minutes and all was fine. So I restarted the computer and no error. I then clicked SHUT DOWN. When I pressed the power button on my tower, nothing happened again just like earlier. After pressing the power button 4 - 5 times, it began to boot up and displayed the error message again. I pressed F1 to enter setup.

At this point, I pulled out my laptop and began reading about this error. To my dismay there was a range of "check this", "try this", "do this", etc. I decided to check the BIOS version. My current version was 0803. I went to the ASUS website, went to my motheboard (ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING), checked for the most current BIOS version and there has been 2 releases since 0803. Most up to date version was 1102. I also noticed under the summary for 1102, it stated "Improved System Stability." I figured ah HA!! GOTCHA!! I downloaded and installed the new BIOS version and the problem has since been resolved. Now when I shut down and then press the power button once, it begins to boot up immediately. Hopefully this is a permanent fix. If the issue resurfaces I will update my post. Hope this solution helps a lot of people! Thanks and good luck.
