I am going to ditch my XFX 8600 GT card because of the the loud fan. I am looking for a silent or almost silent card to replace it. I am not sure if I can use a PCIE-16 that is 2.0 or higher.

I do not game much at all and have needs more inline with being able to provide the best image/resolution for text reading and movie/video watching. I am not getting good quality here with testing various drivers at all.

It was pointed out that I may not be able to use an AMD/ATI card if my board does not support PCI-E 16 2.0 or more? Do the Radeon cards work better for clarity of text and such?

My sys:

HP Media PC
- Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

-Asus board states in BIOS that it is a P5BW-LA3-00 Broadwater -bios V6.00pg
but the online HP data says it is a Asus P5BW-LA Brasswood3G. That HP page shows it as blue colored board
and mine is the classic yellow/gold color but looks the same.
-3.gb ram
-CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
- Power Supply OCZ 600SXS 20w/155w/580w
- XFX 8600 GT

Monitor #1 BenQ 241W 24in. (DVI or HDMI)
Monitor #2 Old Olivia 38 LCD 720p TV (HDMI)

You can use any gpu, any will work on that pci-e port is true that really high end cards will get a little bottleneck on that port but that is not your case.

For watching videos and stuff you don´t need a great gpu almost anything will suffice try to get a low power one so less heat and noise.

That will do it if you have the cash if it´s a little over your budget tell us.

pit, thanks much for your reply.

That Radeon 7770 DDR5 is probably more card than I really need or want to spend. I wont be keeping this PC for longer than a year maybe.

Initially Im looking for a single slot slightly low profile card because there is not much room in my case. It is also important that is is pretty quiet and not sure how i feel about a fan less card, though I wont be pushing it much at all if I do game.

I would like the card to have at least 1 DVI dual link, 1 HDMI, and possibly a display port but I do not want to spend over $50...so that could be asking too much? I just do not have a need for a VGA port.

I just missed a deal on the bay for a Galaxy GT630 1 gb DDR3 slightly used for like $34. But I was not sure if I needed to use a NVIDIA card only after someone posted this on my other thread:

"Because your budget, I only can find this one Galaxy 63TGS8HX3XXZ GeForce GT 630 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I will recommend to buy the nvidia card, because 1) your MB has the pice1.1X16 slot, which does not compatible with AMD GPU with pcie2.1X16, here is the info http://www.overclock.net/a/the-final-answer-to-the-cont...

2) your PC maybe is the HP, and I can't find the newer version BIOS ( at least 2008/2009), if they have the newer bios then the pcie2.1X16 will compatible. 3) If you can find other like GT620 (=GT430) but make sure you get the card has the 128-bit or the 64-bit one."

I would not mind trying a Radeon card for sure as I am not liking the NVIDIA control panel settings ability for color/picture tweaking on this 8600 GT card. I cant get a good clear sharp image with text and the colors are not very easy to dial in with my TV or BenQ monitor. I liked the old NVIDIA control panel settings with the extra sharpness slider with my old 6600GT from way back when.

So wondering what the control panel software is like with the Radeon drivers for setting up dual monitors and tweaking them with very different settings as my 38' LCD TV is old and only 720P. My BenQ is running at 1920 x 1200.

Maybe a Radeon fan less HD 6450 would be in my ball park, but id like to not have that VGA and another DVI instead with the HDMI as well. I think that would be all the power i need, I dont even push the 8600GT card now. $40 new for that would be workable......for what I want to spend on this.
