Can't install programs

Hello I have a problem with my windows 8.1. Whenever I try to install programs, the installer stops when I click install - the install bar stays still, and if I try to cancel it locks up and I have to task manager end task on it.

I've tried compatibility mode + admin but both still have the issue.

Please can anyone help :??:

You have some issue with installation manager. First make sure you have no Antivirus preventing installation. 2nd- make sure a program is for Win. 8.1 64 or 32 bit- what ever you are using. Look up Microsoft Fix It. It will ask what program you have problem to install/uninstall and attempt to resolve.

I used to use this program http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall but now it says- it not supports my OS (I have Win 8.1). If you have 8.1, this may not work.

Try this: http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/ I have not tried it yet.

I've just tried this, it says no problems found. Also I've disabled the AV few times but it doesn't fix it.

Did you use the 1st link or 2nd? Did it say- it wont run on your OS in the 1st link?

Is it just one program or all of them?

I used the first link + it worked fine, 2nd took me to the MS support site.

The problem is for some programs. I've installed Assassins Creed 4 without problem as well as Assetto Corsa on Steam. But some like Grand Theft Auto 4 doesn't install and some come up with error messages.

It is strange that it would not let me use FixIt on my computer- the button is grayed out. You have Win 8.1 right?

Is it possible that download is broken or too much traffic on their site? Some time servers not working. You have Download manager problem not Install manager- it is different.

Yes I have Win 8.1. Don't know why it doesn't work for you.

The download manager doesn't need internet access as far as I am aware, but I'm downloading from another link now just incase. It still doesn't link with the problems I am having though since the programs I'm trying to install have already been downloaded/on disk so don't need internet.
