I was using a laptop up until Christmas for anything download and Steam gaming related. Using this laptop, I would get (and still get) at least 2MB/s download speeds, which was fantastic for my needs.
However, having upgraded to a new desktop PC and using its PCI WLAN card and doing the same tasks of downloading etc I only get at peak times about 700KB/s download speeds.

The card in question is the Addon ADD-NWP300Ev3 300Mbps 802.11n.

Would a wired connection be any better?

(P.S I tested the laptop today, in the same spot as the desktop and got 2MB/s speeds, and tried downloading the same game on the desktop and got 700KB/s)

Thanks guys, and I hope you can help me. :)

A wired connection will always be better it will also allow the wireless bandwidth to be used by other machines that can not be wired. The only advantage wireless has is not to have the wire... It is always inferior to a wired connection.

A laptop will normally have a better speed because the antenna are more optimal placed (ie behind the screen). Try turning your computer to see if you are blocking the antenna.

The only other thing will be drivers. I have never heard of this brand. The key difference between devices is more the level of support you get from the company that the actual devices themselves. I would see if the manufacture has newer drivers. If that does not work then you could try to find what chipset the...

Ok, thank you very much. I am going to check out the driver updates to see if that helps things out, and if not I will proceed to the wired option. Thanks again!
