DO you have onboard video? Sometimes they let you use anywhere from 8MB to 2GB of your Ram for Video Ram. or do you have an addin video card?

Also try this

1 Click Start Start button, type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then click msconfig in the Programs list.
2 In the System Configuration window, click Advanced options on the Boot tab.
3 Click to clear the Maximum memory check box, and then click OK.
4 Restart the computer.

Yea sounds like something with the video ram maybe.

Is your monitor plugged in the back where all the USB ports are and what not? or is it futher down in one of the addin slots. If its by the USB its onboard and check your Bios. If its not its something else

like at the bottom there not at the top.

Hmmm. Maybe go into the MSCONFIG, and then boot, advanced options and then maybe Click maxmium memory and just use the up arrow and see if you can select all the ram.

Weird? You sure you have 4Gb installed? Even if its used for hardware it should show all 4GB under Installed
