One of your disks needs to be checked

For consistency. I got this message when i booted up my pc today. What is going on?

Its a dell inspiron about 3 yrs old. This has never happened before

The hard drive might be failing. I suggest doing a data backup, then running manufactor diagnostics on the hard drive. It is dell it might be Hitachi hard drive or W.D.

Open a command prompt and run chkdsk. Maybe some files are corrupt, or some bad sectors have appeared on the hard drive.

But when i started up computer didnt it auto run chckdsk? It checked a bunch of files and gave me a progress percentage
