Wanting to buy USED CPU

I would like to buy a CPU on an LGA 1155 socket. Preferably Ivy Bridge, but Sandy Bridge is fine too. I do not really want an expensive one because this is just for a junk computer to play with. I already have a Celeron G530, but I would like something with a little more kick. Pretty much if you have an old CPU that you just want to get rid of and its not selling well on eBay let me know the model and price and I might be a buyer.

I have posted this in the "Deals" forum as well as here because it seems the "Deals" section does not get a lot of traffic. If you are trying to sell one please post on either.

Thanks.

well if you were interested in doing it i would say the best place to buy one used would be amazon. but generally they are listed under amazon warehouse deals. they are covered by amazon's A to z warranty. so your pretty much garanteed to get a working processor or your money back.

ebay or craigslist would be a gamble.

In this case it is. I have a system with an i7-3770k, another with an i3-3225, and I am getting another motherboard. I have a G530 CPU sitting around but its pretty lack luster. Its only planned to be used for playing around, testing components, possibly used for short term use for other tasks. Its never going to be used for anything of great importance, and so if the CPU eventually goes out its no big loss. I just want something bigger than the G530 to play with.

@goodguy713:
I glanced at Amazon but couldn't find anything cheap enough. They seemed priced about like Newegg and so did Ebay. I'm hoping that I will find someone looking to toss out an Ivy or Sandy CPU that they upgraded from or just used for a short period until buying something else and are looking to just get rid of it pretty much.

Disagree. I have bought plenty of used CPUs among other parts used with no issues, generally through ebay.

I dont know why people say this, as though because its been used that there will be a problem??

i.e a friend managed to get a Z68 motherboard for very cheap (£30), so I managed to find him a i5 3470 on ebay for £90, saving £50. It works perfectly and regardless still has the Intel warranty.

They do some, not completely. Like anything if it is used, unless its rare, its cheaper. Not to mention as better tech is created older tech becomes cheaper which is the rule with technology. I don't expect to get like an i7-2600k for $100 or something. I am more hoping to get like a nicer Pentium CPU for around $40.

I actually also agree with the others saying buying used CPUs isn't a problem. I have an old system using a used CPU and its great. I mean make sure its working and you are all set.

Yea AMD still has them. Not really sure which I like better since on the one hand a pin breaks could mean your $300 CPU is broke as opposed to a $100 motherboard so in one way I think Intel's idea is better, but it seems a lot harder to straighten the pens in the motherboard.

Anyways, but since I am looking for an Intel CPU, pins are not a concern.

I know that, but if you buy on Ebay or from someone who seems legit then its not such a worry. I might just hold off and use the Celeron G530 I have for now, but more cause it seems people are still holding on to their low end Ivy and Sandy bridge units. I'll wait till a school is doing an upgrade and go for it then.
