Upgrade to 780 or wait till 800 series?

I recently had a an offer for my 7970 with water block for $410 and with christmas i have allowed my self a $400 budget on top of that. My question is, is it worth upgrading at this time, or should I continue waiting for the 800 series? I should mention this is for 1440p gaming.

  1. If you already have a 7970, Id wait for the 800 Series.

But if you cant wait and have the money to blow...then why not?

    Idk, Id wait

For 1440p you would want a 780 Ti. Even at stock the 780 Ti would be a huge upgrade and they generally overclock pretty well.

I feel like for the price of a 780ti for a few hundred bucks more i could pick up two 780s, wouldnt that be better?
  4. Yeah, if you don't mind running multiple cards. Sli is very good ( better than Crossfire) but there are always going to be issues with multiple cards that single cards do not have to worry about like microstuttering and even lack of support on some games.
  5. I just bought an EVGA GTX 780 ACX Superclocked a few weeks ago and I have been nothing but impressed. It lets me max everything at 1920 x 1080 and is silent. I almost bought it a few months ago when the 780 was the flagship card at $650 so budget was not really an issue I just got the 780 because the 780 Ti is overkill for 1920 x 1080 and since my current desk makes upgrading to a larger monitor not really possible without getting a new desk as well it's not something I'm going to do soon. I probably would have started with a single 780 Ti if I had a 1440p monitor.
