so i want to build a gaming PC (mainly for the new DayZ standalone, but will be playing others i'm sure :))...problem is, DayZ is in Alpha now and probably will not be done for another year or so from what i've been reading. right now my Dell Optiplex 7010 with an i7 3770, 8gb RAM, and Radeon 7750 run it ok on medium settings with all the rendering turned off. i know when the final product comes out it will have vehicles and more to it so i'm sure it will run worse on my system by then.

anyways....i plan on waiting to build one, but i'm not sure how the hardware cycle goes for PCs. is it every 6 months, every year, every couple years that it would take to become "outdated"?

i dont want to build a gaming pc now only to have it not perform with DayZ when it comes out. i want to play the game on max settings for full effect.

thanks for any info!

It seems to be every two platforms, at least on the intel side. You have a very good Ivy bridge processor and a fairly good graphics card. You can't future-proof a PC. Your system isn't state of the art anymore but its only 10% slower than state of the art. I'd wait and get a new graphics card a month or so before the launch date. If necessary, update your motherboard, memory and add a SSD and a new case. That should be enough to play it and play it well.

Plenty. Google is your friend.

This isn't difficult, just be patient and careful.
