I recently purchased a VelociRaptor WD6000BLHX and noticed its making an annoying sound. I ignored it because it just sounds like an old fashioned hard drive. Just makes a "brr" while its reading or writing and I remember hearing that sound all the time as a kid on the computer. I booted up Seatools to give the drive a checking and all the tests passed so I wasn't too worried. I have been running windows 8 on this drive for a few weeks now and I havent had any problems at all besides the sound. I'm starting to get worried though because upon looking up this kind of hard drive I cant seem to find anyone else who is having the same annoying sound. The drive itself was re-certified so I want to get to advice before I start using it heavily.

those 10,000rpm HD's were always noisy............... but I stopped buying them years ago because the cost per performance, or lack thereof, was just insane over a 7200rpm drive.
I've got a 1TB Velociraptor and I haven't noticed any annoying sounds. According to reviews the raptors are supposed to make a little more noise than 7200 rpm drives, but nothing really annoying. Send it back, if you can. Or make backups often, at least for the next month or so.
