Hello there, as the title says I am looking for help to solve a problem I am having with my laptop crashing in game. Any help is graciously accepted.

The problem only started occurring today, in League of Legends and Counter Strike Global Offensive(Only two I have tested so far). Where about 10-20 mins into a game if will freeze up for a few seconds and then a few minutes later it will completely freeze. This locks the computer up completely not allowing me to alt+tab or even ctrl+alt+del out of it. Prompting a manual shut down.
It has happened every time I have tried playing. I was playing these games fine up to this point.

I have a Dell XPS L502x laptop which I would not advise anyone else getting. This is the second problem I have had with games crashing on this laptop but this time it is different. The first one I solved by underclocking my GPU.
Specs: Nvidia gtx 540m
intel i5-2450m 2.50ghz
4gb of ram

If any other specs are necessary I can find them out but right now I don't have the time.
I would really like help with this, right now I am clueless. Thanks in advance.

Check hw monitor and check your temps while gaming see what they read could be the cpu and gpu overheating or one or the other if it is then youll have to get into the laptop and fix the cooler and apply new thermal paste as its fan is probly 1 gunked up with god knows what and bad paste

video of how to completely break it down to get into it but you shouldnt have to remove the screen so dont lol

Thanks for the reply, I actually have completely opened my laptop to clean it out recently but I did not have any thermal paste so I couldn't replace what was already there. I have been keeping an eye on the temperatures with MSI afterburner but they haven't been exceedingly high. In League of legends it usually peeks at around 70 Degrees. I will try underclocking it even more and see if that does anything. Thanks again.

id advise getting some mx4 paste and Isopropyl Alcohol, 99% to clean the thermal off and heatsink

this will drop temps down considerably when full loading you shouldnt have to down clock anything so im going to assume the overheat is hurting the gpu performance either that or you got a bad nvidia chip

I have heard of a lot of people having trouble with the 540m card with freezing which I also experienced but I was able to fix that one, this time however is different. Thanks for the suggestion I will try and get some thermal paste sometime soon. Not sure of any shops in Ireland that have thermal paste.

Just had a thought type in your search box device manager in the start button location
go to display adapters and disable any intel hd by right clicking it crap as sometimes these laptops have 2 adapters they switch between it could be the issue with the drivers connect to the internet and right click 540m nvidia and click update driver either way it wont hurt to try this as newer drivers tend to solve problems.

if you cant see if you can get amazon.co.uk to deliver it they also sell the iso alchohol i mentioned.
paste can be found here if you cant get amazon to send it
