how to get into boot choices?

My hp laptop has been coming up with preparing automatic repair and comes up with diagnosing your PC. Its like it trying to load something.. wont let me do anything, just does it continuosly. Can anyone help me? please?

Disconnect all USB devices. Boot choices are usually accessed with F8, also there is options to repair and safe mode. Some time safe mode option is not there- look up online how to access safe mode. If issue started after an update or installation of a program/game, please, try to restore to best known configuration. All these functions are at F8, but may be F4 on some computers.
