Decided to add a few more fans to my build,at the moment i havn't added any extra to the case.So i have the 120mm on the rear, 1x 140mm on the front and the 120mm attached to the 212 evo.
Temps so far are at 31c which isnt too bad, but im thinking i should add another 140mm to the front, and debating whether its worth adding one or 2 x 140mm's or 120mm's to the top.
Any recommendations on what types, brands etc?
So far i think im planning on going with -
Top : Corsair SP120 Performance Edition 120mm Fan Twin Pack - 2x 120mm
Front : Corsair AF140 Quiet Edition High Airflow Fan - 140mm
Also gonna look into blocking up the windowed side panel fan holes,,dont plan on using them, and blocking them up will only stop dust etc getting in.

Noctua fans also come with a splitter which allows you to attach two fans into one fan header. Just FYI.

However, your Asus Z87-A has lots of fan options.
1 x CPU Fan connector(s) (1 x 4 -pin)
1 x CPU OPT Fan connector(s) (1 x 4 -pin)
3 x Chassis Fan connector(s) (3 x 4 -pin)

My mobo is fairly similar. I attach the EVO fan to the CPU Fan connector and rear (corsair fan) fan to my other cpu fan connector. Then I connect the 3 other fans to the 3 CHA connectors. If you are worried about not having enough you could get a connector (molex to...

Fan size, bigger is almost always better. You can move more air quieter with a bigger fan.

I'm partial to Noctua fans. I've got three of their NF-F12 fans in my build and am very pleased with them.

Blocking the side panel also blocks air flow. I would leave them open. Also, the majority of the dust is going to be blown in by the fans. Very little is going to drift in through those holes.

Hi, I got the same case and faced similar situation. When I was looking I wanted quietness and hope to run my fans always at one speed.

So, I decided to add a front 140mm to start. I moved the front Corsair fan down so I could install my new fan in the top position. I was going to get the AF140 but went Noctua NF-A14 PWM. It is extremely quiet and good airflow, but both fans are good. Then I added a 120mm Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1450rpm to the rear top. I think this setup is good enough and I may get a new side panel that does not have side panel fans. Corsair sells them for $10, but I'm going to wait until the heat of summer to decide whether I need to install side fans.

All in all the system is very quiet and the Corsair fans are just ok. I'm pretty sure the loudest fan is from my Evo, which might get swapped soon.

Hope that helps.

Looked on newegg, and low and behold the Noctua NF-A14 is OOS,,typical lol...
looks like ebay has new ones for $23 with free shipping
The higher RPM for the front fan the better right? (more air flow)
Also would it be a good idea to install a fan controller ?

I was wavering about getting a fan controller. I decided against it. I figured I'd find a good level for my fans(cooling and quietness) and then leave them at that. Right now temps aren't an issue so fans run really quiet. :) I just didn't want to find a simple setting and be happy. However, fan controllers are a great idea too if it fits you.

As mentioned, the main noise comes from my Cooler Master EVO fan which might need to get swapped out someday. Once it approaches 1000rpm I can start to hear it (in a quiet room).

Noctua fans come with a low noise adapter which allows you to drop the rpms a bit, but it already is very quiet. Mine typically runs at 1100rpm.

The Corsair fans, which came with the case, run at 900rpm which seems to be fine.

As you can see if you choose the right fans you could simply leave them as is and the system can quietly perform, and void the need for a fan controller.

Nice,, so if i go through and grab one fan for the front and the 2 for the top and i only have 2 free fan headers on my MB,, is there like an adapter or somthing to piggyback one on the other, or would it just be safer to attach one fan in the top,and just use what headers are available on the MB ?

If you are worried about not having enough you could get a connector (molex to 3/4pin) and plug your fan into the PSU via the molex connector. The downside is that you can't control it and it'll run on full speed.
