Hey there guys, so my girlfriend has a relatively decent computer ( it's kinda old but i believe it still has some sort of quad core in it so "Decent" ) Anywho, it had not been reformated in a long time and was starting to act up.

So i reformatted it and everything setup correctly except for one thing. It wont pick up the Ethernet cable i plug into the back and i am unsure on how to find the current Motherboard it is using as she doesn't have the CD to be able to install all that stuff.

Now i'm curious what i need to get this back up and running on the internet, Do i need to replace the entire motherboard so i can get a new cd? Can i find the motherboards exact version etc and just buy the CD alone? Can i just purchase a network adapter for the back of the pc for the ethernet cord and run a cd it comes with?

Any help with this is greatly appriciated, Thanks in advance.

You should find a model number somewhere on the motherboard/then type it in google and look for drivers, also yes incase the port is failing you could always purchase a pci or pcie network card.

You can also try universal network LAN drivers just google them.

Hey thanks for the quick response. All i could find on the motherboard in writing are these ::

MSI P7N SLI Platinum -- N1966 -- MS - 7380 VER : 1.0

And again, i have no internet to donwload anything on this PC, but i do have net on my main one which i can download/transfer stuff via USB if needed.

So i tryed the 64bit one for windows xp, but it said it's not compatible. I looked in my computer and the system says : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Serivce Pack 2.

Do i need the 34bit one? Or which one should i use from the drop down box on that link you gave me?

Try the 32 bit one.

It's gonna be trial and error until it works

If one does install successfully and there are no activity lights on the ethernet port then the port is bad, You will then need a pci network card.
