I recently purchased a 7970 graphics card, and I had it flashed without knowing so to an overclocked bios. It runs fine with my custom fan control settings with about 45% fan speed idle, but if the fan controller (Sapphire Trixx) ever crashes, the fan settings would be the stock 20%.

Whenever it uses stock automatic fan settings, the fan speed stays around 20% until reaching 90 degrees Celsius, and then throttles up, and back down until crashing.

There's no problem when the fan controller is on, but sometimes the controller crashes or doesn't load while I am idle (Such as turning on my computer and not logging in; fan controller does not load, and the automatic settings is on until logged in.).

Is there any way to change the default fan speed?

If your card has the Dual BIOS that Sapphire usually gives to the HD 7900 series, you can find the switch somewhere on the card. Flip it to use the original BIOS.

Thank you. Temperatures have settled quite significantly again, but the card still heats up at default 20% default fan speed. Haven't tested how high it will go, but I don't think it will overheat like it does before.

You can use MSI Afterburner rather than Trixx. It's an alternative monitoring/overclocking software than allows you to set a custom fan curve. Very reliable, I use it myself.

Don't run both Trixx and Afterburner at the same time.
