I want to build a system with:
* 2 drives striped for OS,
* 4 drives in RAID 5 for documents (lots),
* 2 drives in RAID 0 for movie backup storage, and
* 2 drives in RAID 0 for music backup storage.

I want LGA 2011, so I can have the maximum possible RAM.

Most motherboards will have very simulate support for raid. I'd say spending up on a higher end mother board would make sense. I'm just wondering if you realise the risks with running raid? It's very unstable and tends to cause your hdd'd or ssd's to crash. So make sure you have external back up sources... Good luck...

Thanks for your answer. I am aware of the risks, benefits, etc with RAID. I have been running various RAID configurations for years on SSDs, and have not yet experienced any issues. I am mostly interested in hearing about motherboard quality, RAID controller quality, and associated recommendations.

On a side note, Since I plan to place my critical documents on a RAID 5 setup, that should help solve the back-up issue, but I also will be backing up to an eSATA drive.

Thanks

I've heard raid 5 is the most unstable?

I believe motherboards such as high gaming boards (asrock extreme11 and asus rampage VI) would be able to handle this very well. I'd say this is the best way to go considering you really need quality with this. I do believe MSI have great raid capabilities as well
