Can LGA775 socket take Core i7 processor?

Solution
No socket 775 only supports the old Intel Core 2 solo, duo, quad or extremes. Some of those Core 2 extremes were very fast and can still stand up to today's i3s or maybe even low end i5s, however these are on old less efficient architectures and so will use more power and produce more heat in order to get a similar level of performance.

Many thanks, Jason, for your answer. Indeed shortly after posting my question, I found a link somewhere on this forum and followed it. There I got a table of the Intel iCore series and their appropriate sockets. However, your answer added other useful information that threw some more light on the issue. Thanks very much.
