HP Pavilion dv6000, Windows vista Home Entertainment

Major problems: Black screen, white horizontal lines no cursor, stuck on HP logo loading screen, and cannot access bios.

What I’ve tried: Unplugged charger, removed battery, and held power button for 30 seconds. No go. Only a black screen popped up.

Startup repair did not do anything. I still got a black screen.

F10 hangs on “loading, please wait”

Any suggestions? Is the hard drive most likely gone? Is there any way to back it up?

Sounds like a BIOS issue - the HDD would not affect access to the BIOS setup as this can be accessed even with no drives. It may be possible to reflash the BIOS if you are technically skilled enough and have an EEPROM reader. The DV6000 is a very old laptop - I used to have one. You may be better off to upgrade to a newer model as even the cheapest laptops today will outperform that.

It all makes sense now.

Would you advise against getting someone who is skilled to flash it? (It does seems like a waste of money to me)

I'm just glad the hard drive is salvageable.

Depends on the bios. I can't remember if it is soldered on to the motherboard in that laptop. It is probably not an easy thing to fix for 99% of people, but if you can find someone who can flash it you could try. Most computer shops will probably say it is impossible - they don't usually know much about these things. The laptop is too old to send back, I assume (my one would be 7 years old now)

Here's a link to the motherboard (I believe): http://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-DV6000-436449-001-Mot...

Yeah, the warranty is no good now. Looks like I'll be shopping for a new one.
