why is my new Seagate 1TB hard drive not discoverable by my Windows pc? Also, any idea why when I opened it up it only had 930

What do you mean by not discoverable? Is it in the disk manager or device manager? It will maybe need formatting. HDD OEMs define 1TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, while windows defines 1TB as 1,099,511,627,776 bytes. Also the file system headers take up some space at the start of the disk (this is info on the disk as well as a file index)
