Getting a CPU + MOBO Upgrade

Hi guys.

I recently upgraded my GPU and now I feel my CPU is bottlenecking.

My Specs:

Mobo ASUS F1A55-M
APU AMD A8- 3870k (OC to 3.5Ghz)
RAM Corsair Vengeance 2 x 4GB DDR3-1600 CL9 (OC to 1866)
GPU MSI R9 270 Gaming (GPU OC to 1110 Mhz)
PSU BE QUIET! 530 Watt 80Plus Bronze
CASE Silverstone PS06 (Positive Airflow 3x120mm 1x180mm)
Aftermarket CPU Cooler Thermaltake Contac 39

Since I'm not using the APU graphics any more, I was thinking of going for a FX series CPU.

My first choice would be the FX 8320 with the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Mobo.

Would this combo work for OC (I would go for 4.0-4.5 Ghz OC)

That motherboard has the AMD 990FX chipset which is good for overclocking as well as decent VRMs so you can get extra voltage to the CPUs if you need to. I also recommend a strong aftermarket cooler such as a hyper 212 evo or h80 if you can fit it in your case (I can't tell how much clearance there is above the motherboard tray from the pictures)

Yep your motherboard is fine It supports every processor on the socket.
If you had more money you could even go with a fx8350 for a bit of extra punch and more overclocking potential.

I am intel's fan so i will suggest you this upgrade with the same money.

That's a good combo and you could definitely get it up to 4, and possibly 4.5 ghz with a bit of voltage tweaking and if you are lucky and get the good chip, make sure you get a good cooler though

Another good board is the Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0, if you can get it cheaper

That cooler will be fine, however the H80 will likely achieve similar levels of cooling without as much noise output if you care about that. Otherwise stick with what you have.

How far did you OC it? I read somewhere that 5Ghz is possible.

I did that build for my friend and he hasn't oced i don't think he wants to either but ive heard of people with liquid who have gotten it to 5 ghz
