Hi, I am new to overclocking cpu's and I have been reading some threads about it on these forums and I just would like some help and/or tips for overclocking my 4670k. I understand you have to increase your ghz and increase voltage and use stress tests, then try to find a sweet spot that is stable. Here are my current specs.
CPU: Quad i5 4670k 3,4 GHz
RAM: 2 4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
Mobo: Gigabyte Z87M-D3H
GPU: Geforce Nvidia GTS 450
Tower: CoolerMaster HAF 922

The one thing I don't understand is the different voltages for the CPU and what to change while also changing the GHz amount.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

There are basically two different approaches to this:

1) What Calnin said: Increase your multiplier until you get stability problems or get too high temperatures. Then you can think about slightly increasing the VCORE (if your temps are alright) until it´s stable again. Then you can again increase the multi and so on until you either can´t get it stable any more or you hit too high temps.

2) Set your multi to something like 44-46 and your VCORE to something 1.2 and see if it is stable and play with it afterwards (either go down or up from there).

Also, what cooling solution do you have?
Don´t try to overclock with the stock cooler.

Yeah I was thinking of using Prime95 or Intel Burn Test, what do you think is better?

No, I don't have a stock cooler. My friend gave me a heat sink and two fans for my cpu, though I only have one fan installed on it right now. I am not exactly sure what model it is but just having that on there, it lowered my cpu by about 17 degrees C. Stock it was about 43 C, now its running 25-28 C.

Also, when running prime95 should I be testing my RAM? Or do I only need to do the test with minimal work on the RAM?

UPDATE: I believe I have successfully overclocked my 4670k to 4GHz @ 1.095 volts on my VCORE. I ran prime95 to test it and I did the blend test and all cores passed over the first 10 tests with no errors or warnings and then I did the large FFT and they all passed over the first 10 tests with no errors or warnings, and none of the cores exceeded 60 C during both tests. I am pretty happy with the results, however during both tests 1 core was completing tests slower than the other cores, e.g. one of the cores would be on test 10 while the other 3 cores would be on test 18. Should I be concerned about that? Or is it just because maybe that core was processing stuff from my OS and what not?
