Power draw related to VRAM?

Hello Toms,

I once read somewhere that the GDDR5 VRAM is has a very high power draw and the more VRAM the more power consumption. This makes sense but in realistic application more VRAM=higher end card which would draw more power regardless.

My buddy recently purchased the 4gb 270x and I'm assuming the power draw shouldn't be much higher than the 2gb 270x, but could it be?

Thanks for the help!

...I seriously doubt it. I don't have the hard numbers to back it up, but the GPU itself is probably going to far and away draw more power. The difference is probably 2 watts or less, especially since there isn't an increased bus / clock rate associated with it.

That said, I really doubt those extra 2GB will do him good... not a lot of situations where he'd need more than 1GB, even.
