Is a 6pin connector needed for the GTX 650?

I have been researching on different sites and some of them say the GTX 650 doesn't need a 6 pin connector because it's maximum card power is 64W. Do I actually need a 6 pin connector and if not, will there be any differences between having one and not?

Probably not. Just use a Molex to 6-pin cable. If the manufacturer says do something then, to me, it makes sense to do it.

i guess you re right because 64W it can draw from pci slot !

So it will work without the pin connector?

Put the 6 pin in.

Since its max RMS is unde 75w, it will work for the most part without a 6 pin. That RMS, however is only slightly under 75w. Its power needs can spike above 75 at times, and without the 6 pin, those spikes can cause damage to your card.

Power fluctuations (from ripple in the PSU or elsewhere) also mean the pci-e slot doesn't deliver exactly 75w, either. Southbridge voltage regulators tend to only have a single phase.

If the card comes without a 6-pin connector then (obviously) it willl work without it. But if it has a 6-pin connector then you almost certainly need to plug it in. Everyone witters on about the fact that PCI-Express can supply 75W (more than this card requires) but overlooks the fact that the manufacturer may well power some components off the PCI bus and some off the 6-pin connector.

If you don't want to use a 6-pin power connector then buy a card that doesn't have one. If you buy one with a 6-pin connector it almost certainly won't work (but that may depend upon the make and model); don't buy such a card and then come back here complaining that you are having problems. I can find you lots of posts from people who have tried to run such a card without the auxilliary connector and have failed.

What more is there to say on this topic?

there are 2 card according to the power requirement.
one has a 6 pin connector on it but other has no 6 pin connector on it.
so as company made the card without the 6 pin connector then you are unable to connect the 6 pin header to the card,,
i am using such one called the green edition. it has no external power connector of 6 pin.
and is working as well so don't be afraid and install it and use it

A perfect example of how dumbed down people are getting! Some idiot buys a card that requires a 6-pin and is actually arguing and carrying on about how it will run without it.
A car has to have wheels to roll! You can't go anywhere without wheels no matter how hard you believe otherwise.
