Considering a new monitor

Hello, I bought a new computer a bit less than two years ago, and in September 2013 upgraded its GPU and PSU (Radeon HD 7790 and Corsair 430W).

In the past week, after several intensive gaming sessions, I've been noticing problems with my HP w2007 monitor (got it new in 2008). They are minor, but troubling. When I turn the screen back on after a while, but not after my PC was in sleep/standby mode (I run Folding@home so the computer rarely does that) the screen is black until I press Ctrl-Alt-Del.

Now, when I turn on my computer without turning on the monitor, then later turn on the monitor, the whole screen is covered in white static (similar to an old TV but no movement). Thankfully, pressing Enter opens up my password entry and reveals the middle half of the screen, then logging in reveals everything on the desktop as it should be.

I'm guessing this is a sign of my monitor's old age and that I might need to change it soon, but I'd like to know if I can fix it or even safely ignore it. If not, I'll welcome suggestions for a monitor and gladly provide my specs and budget.

I would go for a new monitor and use your old one as a secondary for like skype and youtube like i do.
It wont damage your computer in any way it is safe to use still. And when it dies on you it wont be that big of a deal.

Im guessing you are going to want a 1080p monitor waht price range would you like it to be in and are there any size constraints you would like.
