Hey guys,
I've been having "not responding" errors and slowness for a few months.
I believe it started after windows updated network card driver (atheros).
it doens't happen so often when the card is disabled.

some things i did:
i installed the latest drivers from atheros
uninstalled all unnecessary programs
full scans of bit defender and malwarebytes, the latter in safe mode
remove device from device manager, restart, let it install.
sfc error - corrupt files but unable to fix some of them.

my windows installation is legal and registered.
I can't re-install windows as I have neither the original CDs, nor a dvd drive.

Windows 7 home on Asus Creative Zen UX31e (the best electronic thing i ever had, after iphone)

Thanks,
e.

Thanks. Already did run ccleaner.

more info:
windows performance set to custom with only 3 options checked.
index service not running.
disabled many other services
hard disk is SSD, so it's not that.
looking at task manager, nothing is hogging the CPU for the duration of the freeze.

when it happens, the task bar still responds.

i did many other things to try to fix this - please keep asking/suggesting.

thanks,
e.

sfc log doesn't show anything interesting, as far as i can tell.

hey.
i've clicked your answer as "best answer" by mistake.

i already did that and it didn't help.

thanks anyway.

my computer now does beep beep when it's getting stuck, and after a few seconds resumes responding again.

other ideas?

it's a laptop.
ssd drive so no need to defragment.
disabled all possible programs services etc.
hard drive has enough space.

other ideas?
