I am trying to decide which to use on my "home server"
Current Specs (basically a previous gaming pc i built in ~2007)
CPU: C2D E6400
Mobo: EVGA 680lt
Video: 7950gt 512mb (about to replace with a spare GTS 450 1gb)
Ram: 6gb DDR2
HDD: Various
OS: Linux
I mainly use it as a headless video streamer using plex. It also does any downloading and storage i need on the network as well. Occasionally i turn on a minecraft server that a few friends like to mess around in.
I recently gutted an old Dell XPS with the Core 2 Quad 6600 for a friend and he didnt need the Cpu, so im tempted to stick it in my server since its the same chipset. Will i notice any gains going through the trouble of finding an aftermarket cooler (no oc at all, strictly stock) and installing the quad core? Or should i just leave the C2D in there?
