It is very possible that you can. First need to know the model number series for your laptop and probably determine motherboard. I know my Asus laptop that currently has an i5 2430m will support an i7 2630qm.
Edit*- Looking at your laptop model, it looks like yours does support i3's. It would have to be a sandy bridge based mobile i3. It looks like there were variants of your laptop that came with these 3 i3's. http://ark.intel.com/compare/53434,53438,53442
