I'm not familiar with windows defender? Have you download anything lately this my be a piece of spyware, can you clarify that it's a genuine windows program by going into your program uninstall menu and telling me what date it was installed and when windows 8.1 was first installed on your computer

Windows 8/8.1 is perfectly fine without antivirus. Windows Defender is a great integrated tool that does a better job than the majority of antivirus providers out there.
You cannot run more than one antivirus provider at any given time. It's a risk. The software conflicts with the other installations and leaves your PC susceptible to attacks.
Uninstall Norton and McAfee. Update Windows and enable Windows Defender.
Windows Defender's service will not be enabled if there is other antivirus on the PC.

Microsoft have adapted their antivirus to target the most common threats. It works, the failed a test that queries directories for foreign and seldom seen content. When Windows defender works in unison with Smart Shield and other background processes it cannot be beaten.

Norton rarely pushes definition updates to the consumer, whereas Defender alerts you when there is on the minute it arrives.

It varies from person to person, and I myself have never spent a penny on antivirus nor have I ever contracted a virus. The Microsoft tools work just fine for me and all of the customers I deal with.

Hello,

Sorry for the trouble. As the moderator indicated, it is not recommended to use more than one security product. What happens when you double-click the Norton icon? Does it open the Norton product?

Thanks!
