My computer freezes in all modes (safe mode, clean install , xp repair), And if boot normally it halts at win xp logo screen.

Here's what i did in an attempt to tackle this problem

I plug everything out (all usb device, mouse , keyboard) except power and monitor cable. steel freeze at same spot.

I have 1 stick of 2gb of ram only, so i switch to other slot. still windows freeze upon 'starting windows'.

My motherboard is gigabyte g31m-sl2 , i'm not sure if mobo is dying , or hardisk 160 seagate sata is dying.

i plug the harddisk onto my other desktop as main hddisk. And it boot fine, So i ran chkdsk and defrag the c:/ partition. When plugged back to original desktop. It still freezes. Now im planning to buy used ide harddisk and install xp to see if mobo is ok or not. Im not sure if my mobo cant detect sata disk or mobo is dying soon

Or if anybody knew what's causing this. Pls advice.
