Hi Guys

My system is as follows:
AMD FX 8120
Asus M5A78LM USB3 mobo
Built-in memory: 7918 MB
Windows 8.1 64 bit

I have had my current system for about a year now. After reading through posts on here I have discovered my mobo is a lower wattage than my CPU. The CPU is 125 W (i think) and the mobo is 95W?

I was considering upgrading the motherboard to a 125W as I assume I will only get optimum performance if I do so.

Can someone recommend an upgrade for me. My main concern for this post was if upgrading the motherboard will i need to re-install windows etc. Can i just switch all my hardware onto the new motherboard and off you go?

Is it likey to cause any corruption etc?

Whats your budget?, their are plenty of good motherboards for different budgets

You would definitely need to re activate windows. I have changed a few motherboards before, without having to re install windows, but this was with windows 7. I just loaded in the new drivers. I doubt windows 8 will be any different. You can try it but if it doesn't work then backup and re install

Worst case is that it wont boot, but that was more of a problem with windows xp rather than windows 7/8
