I'm a new builder and I was just wondering what the small internal speaker for the motherboard is for, because it's to small to be used as real speakers.
Its beeps and stuff when your computer turns on it also makes noises when there are errors. But you dont need it and most people dont install it. If you can be bothered to find the small header in some nook of your mobo go for it i guess

It's for error beeps. You need it because sometimes if you did not install memory sticks, or the CPU fan is disconnected, or the casing fan is disconnected, or some other serious hardware problems, the speaker will beep to let you know.
Is there a beep code to let you know that a speaker is not present?
Funny. I'm actually assembling a new PC right now and connected the small speaker on 2-pins wire to the motherboard. However because I haven't connected any SATA devices (DVD writer and harddisk), the system booted to the UEFI screen without any beep. I remember on older motherboards like 5 years ago there will be one beep for boot up. Well the UEFI screen came up so I know my CPU and RAM and power/reset switches are installed correctly. I just don't know if I got the speaker connector direction correct.
