Point and shoots – Thoughts?

I don't always want to take my cameras out when I'm adventuring, and my phone isn't the best for pictures. Can anyone suggest a decent point and shoot that has some measure of optical zoom and DoF option so I can get near-pro photos without having to lug around my Camera and Lenses. Thanks!

I have recommended the Canon EOS M recently to several friends. I have a large 5D MKII but this is a tiny mirrorless camera with a very large APSC sensor, compared to any cell phone. The M with the 18-55mm which is equal to 28-88mm. I don't know if that is long enough for you but it has large camera quality and is currently selling for about $275. For the quality and price, it is a no brainer. I bought one because it is also compatible with my large collection of lenses and makes for some interesting combinations.
