I'm sorry that I'm asking such a redundant question.

For the past 2 months my laptop screen has been black most of the time. The computer still runs and an external monitor allows me to use the laptop.

I have changed the inverter board, tested the memory, removed the battery and held down on the power key, and took the LCD monitor off to check my video cables.

The screen stays black 80% of the time. However, if I turn it off and on enough it will eventually come on. The screen is as bright as when I bought it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a dv9500 HP laptop. The computer originally came with Windows Vista but am running XP instead.

I don't know if this will help, but the screen is black from the moment the laptop turns on. I am unable to access BIOS unless I turn the computer off and on 20 times until screen works.

Also, I can't find an option to adjust BIOS screen brightness. This is a very limited PhoenixBIOS.

Alright an update, it appears once I get the screen working I can shut down the computer and turn it back on and the screen will continue to work.

However, if the battery gets low enough then the screen will stop working again.
