Hello all,'

I have a few questions Iwanted to ask. I recently bought a new video card (AMD 7850 HISICEQ 2G). I love it! The only problem is that my monitor only has a VGA input( I know its bad ) and the gpu has DVI and HDMI. I bought a DVI to VGA and have been rolling with it for a few months. It's not terrible...but it has issues like slight screen waves.

Now I'm ready to buy a new monitor. Scrolling through the threads Ive seen:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236335
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236153
suggested.
I'm willing to spend up to 250.

I know for sure I want a HDMI capable monitor. My question is, if I switch from the DVI-VGA cable to a HDMI, am I going to lose any FPS in games. I'm currently playing SKYRIM with ENB mods and HD textures...running from 48-60 fps. Will I notice any decrease? Also, do you have any other suggestions on a nice monitor for $250 or less?

Thanks a bunch!

Edit: Also, what is the difference between the 2ms and 5ms. I'm assuming the 5ms is better?

Well the hd 7850 is a good card for 1080p gaming, as I told you, that will depend on the game also so I can´t tell how much fps you´re going to lose, you can change the res in the game settings but it´s always preferable to play at the max res because you lose the sharpness and quality of the screen.

This is a much better buy if you can go that far.

No, hdmi is just a connection, capable of delivering audio and video at the same time so you don´t need speakers for connecting your pc to the tv or if the monitor has speakers, you won´t get less fps for that, between 2ms and 5ms the difference is barely noticeable but more than that is not a good idea.

`Switching to an HDMI and or DVI monitor is the best thing you can do. VGA is a dying technology and HDMI can just connect to so many more modern devices.

`The best option for an HDMI monitor under $250 would be the second link you posted and totally recommend it. ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236153 ) This has great features, a great viewing size of 24", 1080p, and should give better results in games. :)

`Whenever you see monitors tell you 1ms, 2ms, 5ms, 8ms, etc.. This is the amount of time measured it takes for the pixel to transition color. So lower the number then this means less blur and "ghosting trails". Technically 2ms will be more fluid than 5ms. The type of connection you use whether if it is DVI, HDMI, VGA will not determine or effect the FPS you get. Having a higher resolution however will make your FPS drop due to your gpu working harder to render more pixels on the monitor. Hope this helps.

Awesome, thanks for the replies everyone. The monitor I am currently using is a 1600x900 I believe. Will switching to a 1920x1080 significantly reduce my fps? I really like the monitor Pit_1209 posted, and I think that's the one I will be purchasing. I have decent speakers already, so I wouldn't use the monitor's speakers. Also, (this is probably a stupid question) when it states that it is a 3D monitor, is it just simply saying that it is capable of 3D?

Again, really appreciate everyone's input!

Yeah that will drastically reduce your fps depending on the game and your gpu, yes that monitor can do 3d and all that stuff and yes that will reduce your fps too but I chose it for the 144hz refresh rate that will make a big difference in gaming.

Ah, so I'm mainly playing Skyrim with a decent amount of mods (running at 48 fps average), Battlefield 4, and CS:GO. My GPU is a Radeon 7850 HD 2G. My CPU is i7-3770 at 3.4 hz. Switching to a 1920x1080...how much fps do you think I will lose?

Edit: I can always choose to run the game in 1600x900 with the 1920x1080 monitor until I get a new GPU down the road correct?

It can really vary how much performance you lose in a game, but I just played "Grid 2" at 900p and then compared it 1080p resolution and only lost like 3-5 frames running 1080p.
