Hey,
I picked up an HP dx7200 workstation for free to use as a second computer. Some of the parts (possible incl the mobo) have been swapped around so it wont fit standard dx7200 specs.
Anyway, the board is an LGA775 socket and I'm looking at throwing in a new CPU. Will any LGA775 cpu work? Do differing lithographies and FSB speeds prevent use of some CPUs?
The motherboard replacement number is 375376-001 if anyone is interested. Its manual states that it is compatable with celeron D, pentium 4 and D. The manual was published in 2007 and newer 775 have obviusly come out since then.

Cheers,
Dan

It currently has a pentium 4 630. I'm not expecting a huge performance boost and I'll be buying second hand as cheap as possible so I don't stand to loose much. I'm not using it as a gaming pc, more of a media streaming pc.

Cheers

It does go the way it is. I have Win 7 installed on it atm. Yea, pretty much just a hobby type thing. Any idea as to the answer to the question? :p

Currently has pentium 4 630. Would I be able to use something like a Core 2 Duo e6550? Still 775 but has higher FSB and is a 65nm processor whereas the pentium is a 90nm.
Spooky: The manual was published before later 775 processors e.g the one above. This is why I am wondering.

I think your board will only handle single core celerons of the type listed. Your best bet is to get a Pentium D 960. At least that would be a dual core but no hyperthreading at 3600MHz.

If you can find any of those old CPU's anymore.

You might shoot HP an email asking.....
