Using a new Asus Direct CUII Top R9 280X, bought from Scan.co.uk and have found minor artifacts in Far Cry 3 and Battlefield 4 while on stock clocks and voltages (this is a factory overclocked card like most others)

The artifacting in Far Cry 3 has been the same as in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=by4QKutmD8U
(When he exits the house you can see a flash of black checks appear on the screen)

After installing the newest AMD Catalyst 13.12 drivers the artifact shown in the video appeared once and has since stopped, so not sure if fixed or not.

In Battlefield 4, I have once noticed flashing black polygons while indoors on Dawnbreaker. I have not found any other artifacts since yesterday, where I found flashing transparent pixels inside a small mosaic like box on the bottom right of the screen, ingame and on the menu screen.

Artifacting has not appeared anywhere else apart from these two games which suggests the GPU could be fine. Also, the artifacts i've been seeing in BF4 are very irregular and tend to start about half an hour ingame on BF4.

I have had HW Monitor running while playing and I can assure you that the graphics card has not been overheating as the max temp read as 76C after playing.

So is this a defunct card that should be replaced (taking into consideration that this card came installed in a well tested prebuilt system from Scan.co.uk)? or is this possibly a driver issue or game issue?

The PSU is a Corsair AX760i.

I would appreciate any more questions about the system to help solve this problem before phoning up Scan to issue a replacement..

From what i have heard it is something which is fixed with a bios update for the card.

i didnt even see any artifacting in that video. Its probably just from running the game at lower settings? Might be a good idea to update your motherboard drivers and bios and also the GPU bios. If you are unsure about it go to the website of the manufacturer of the card and there should be something there about it.

Yes, I agree it's quite hard to see the artifacting in the video but basically whenever I leave the house there is a split second flash of pixel artifacts and that's it. I am running the game at max settings and all my drivers are up to date. Unfortunately I can't update my GPU bios until Saturday so can't give any updates until then.

If anyone else is having these problems or knows a little more about them, I would appreciate if you posted it.

Some other times i got many artifacts appearing everywhere on screen. They appear in Dota 2 and in Planetside 2 as well.
I tried to update GPU bios via the GPU Tweak software which comes in with the gpu CD , but it said Rom programming fail. I dont know if it worked. I did a clean uninstall of the old drivers using these steps
1. Ran CCC from C:/ AMD and did a custom uninstallation. Removed all
2. Restarted computer
3. Ran Driver Fusion and deleted everything from AMD
4. Restarted computer
5. Installed latest 13.12 R9 drivers

So what now?? The card needs replacement? Or i should update the gpu bios with a different way ?

Just one of the many i managed to catch in screenshot. Well they are flashing so i cant catch them on picture
The thing im really afraid of, is that someone told me he sent the card back , they tested it with benchmark and said there was no problem. I dont always get the artifacts, just random times. What if they test it and tell me its ok we send it back to you ? (it may not happen in all games, or it happens after 30 minutes or randomly)

If they refuse to replace it, maybe you can ask for a refund instead- and with that money buy another gpu, like the gtx 770 :)

Well it sounds like a very unprofessional company if they do test it like that

Hey, I have MSI version of the card with the same issue and was able to resolve it. My Fix might work for you. Inside the GPU box I found a scrap of paper that showed a small physical switch on the the bottom of the card that toggles between "hybrid" bios and Legacy bios. The hybrid bios, which is on by default for some reason, is supposed to help improve wake times from hibernation and reboot. I found my switch on the underside near the very front (closes to the display ports) and toggled it to Legacy. That solved all of my artifact and frame rate issues.

Thanks for the answer, but just to let everyone know, I now have a GTX 770 which I got a while ago.

Yeah, the GTX 770 is working completely fine with no artifacts compared to the R9 280X. But i wouldn't blame AMD, more likely Asus.

Surely there must be some Asus DC2T R9280X 's which work, otherwise it would be more well known that this card is broken. I'm surprised that there hasn't been way more people complaining about this.
