Im about to purchase a 4770k today and a mobo, probably the MSI z87 MPOWER MAX or the ASUS g45. Mostly for gaming and streaming. What would a good memory speed be? im currently looking at either 1866 or 2400?

here are some g.skill kits im looking at:

sniper 1866- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231611

TridentX 2400- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231589

is the 2400 obviously better because its higher? Porbbaly going to overclock the 4770k later but not right away.

Haswell likes high speed RAM and the IMC can actually use it unlike in previous generation Intel chips.

That Trident X kit with the 10% off promo looks like the best deal I see.

2 x 8GB will be best overall because you can always upgrade later since it will leave you 2 free RAM slots. It will also leave more room for an aftermarket CPU cooler. As far as performance goes there will be no difference except sometimes populating all 4 DIMMs on a motherboard can require a sight voltage bump and from that perspective 2 sticks is better as well.

Until recently you would get better timings with 4 smaller sticks cheaper but the manufacturing process has matured with 8GB DDR3 sticks so that is not really the case anymore. 8GB sticks now have the same timings as 4GB sticks and the 16GB 4 x 4GB kits are not cheaper than the 2 x 8GB kits are.
